Kollu Podi / Horsegram Powder

Ingredients

Horse gram (Kollu) -1/2 cup

Red Chillies (Kanja molaga) – 6 nos.

Curry leaves (Karuvepillai) – 2 stands

Asafoetida (Perungayam) – a pinch

Salt – as desired

Oil – 1 teaspoon

Preparation

1. In a pan, dry roast horse gram (kollu) till it changes color and gives out a good aroma. Then, keep it aside and cool it down.

2. In the same pan, heat a teaspoon of oil, and add red chillies, curry leaves, and asafoetida. Fry for a minute or so, and then cool it down.

In a blender, add roasted horse gram (kollu), red chillies, curry leaves, salt, and asafoetida and grind them to a fine powder. Store it in an airtight container.

Serve. While serving this kollu podi with rice, add a teaspoon of ghee or sesame oil.

While serving this kollu podi with dosa and idly, add sesame oil.
